ArtistLaunch began as a clearinghouse for internet broadcasters, but has quickly evolved into an Internet radio network which draws its material almost exclusively from independent artists, and has further developed into a promoter of the artists, providing them with Live Showcases, internet and real-world radio outlets, reviews, and Artist Pages.

ArtistLaunch exists for the benefit of independent artists, helping not only to promote them but also helping them to promote themselves and to cooperate with one another in these efforts.

From its start in 1999 ArtistLaunch's aim was to become an online music promoter (OMP) rather then a passive online music distributor (OMD). As the concept became crystallized the NetWork began its evolution.

In 2001 they introduced FreeWorldRadio. At the time ArtistLaunch was the only Independent Artist Network with an internet based radio player.

In 2001 they introduced their "on demand" CD manufacturing program. This CD program allows artists to have 3 levels of CD manufacturing choices and 2 levels of CD distribution choices. They also offer final mixing and mastering services and even a voiceover service.

For artists who are not prepared to make a large up-front cash investment they also offer a middle of the road manufacturing program where artists can have quantities of up to 200 CDs made at one time for a relatively low costs.

On the distribution side, they offer two programs. Artists can sell their CDs through the secure socket network shopping cart either on consignment for artists who already have CDs manufactured or through their participation program.

ArtistLaunch artists can also easily create podcasts of their music including personal commercials and have them automatically build and distribute them to all the important podcast directories.
