They are a content aggregator and license broker with strong distribution in the US and China. They are partly owned by artists organizations and labels, which prevents them from being bought up by unfriendly commercial interests.
They distribute to the well known sites such as iTunes, Microsoft MSN, Musicnet, Real Networks Rhapsody, MTV, OD2, Virgin, Yahoo, HMV, iMesh, Synacor, and MusicGremlin. In addition, they deal with many niche genre distributors and mobile distribution partners. They have been doing business in China since 2002, and have long term agreements with distribution services like Sina, Wanwa and NetGen, with distribution through the largest ISPs in China including China Mobile and China Unicom.
