Selling Your MusicAwal.co.uk - Site ReviewAwal specialises in the aggregation, encoding and sale of music and spoken word content through digital music service providers such as iTunes, Napster, HMV & Virgin.
They have been delivery to iTunes since November 2004 and work on a simple two page non-exclusive license with a 30 day roll-over.
The model is quite simple. Awal takes a 15% commission on what Apple pays to them. For example, a single song download in the UK costs the consumer 79p. Apple pay them, the dealer , 47p, from which they take their commission (7.05p) leaving the you the label with 39.95p - just over 50%.
They provide accounting data to users quarterly with accurate and detailed accounts, which they can also provide as an Excel formatted spreadsheet.
You retain all the rights to your song(s), but the artist assigns them non-exclusive rights so they can distribute your music. They also do the necessary UPC and IPSC barcoding for you.
There is no up-front costs involved.
Even if you are not a U.K. artist, you can still sign up with them.
The steps involved in getting your music to them are:
A)Send two copies of the signed agreement along with your CDs.
If you can not provide shop quality CDs, alternatively you can do the following:
1) Put the music on an Audio CD (do not use a sticker to identify the CD).
2) The sleeve artwork (or good photo) 1400 x 1400 pixel JPG at 300dpi is best.
3) The track titles and label / copyright information.
4) A band biography or press release for the CD.
The last three items can be included as files on a CDROM.
